As a native of the Rocky Mountain West, I feel I must once more apologize for the actions of my fellow westerners. These short sighted idiots continue to shame us all, not only as natives of this part of the country, but as Americans as well.
How many more, Mr. Bush? How many more? What about our allies? How many more of them must die? And what about the much larger number of Iraqis who have died? How many more?
And no, I do not live in Seattle. Not yet, anyway. I wish I did. I have the Seattle skyline graphic up on my blog because I love Seattle; it fascinates me, it calls to me. And one day, hopefully, my path shall take me there.
So, I just found out that Day of the Dead was also remade, in direct to video fashion. Must check that out. Also, turns out that one theatre in my shitty little city actually did pick of Diary of the Dead. And it looks as though it will show it for about 5 second. Great.
I have always had a thing for zombie movies. I am not really sure why. Probably something about how humankind feeds on itself, I suppose. And of course, there is also the whole "end of the world" bit which has also always fascinated me. Anyway, I have always had a thing for zombie movies; Night of the Living Dead (the original, not the crappy remake), Dawn of the Dead (both the original and the remake), Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead. When I found out about Diary of the Dead I couldn't wait. And, of course, where I unfortunately live, none of the theatres picked it up. Anyway, I think you get the picture. So, needless to say, when I first came upon Max Brooks' World War Z, I was rather intrigued, especially when I realized this was the same guy who had written The Zombie Survival Guide. I was downright excited. Excitement, I must say, that was definitely warranted. World War Z, to put it simply, is one of the best books I have ever read. Max Brooks has succeeded in taking a horror movie stable, the zombie, and completely modernized it for the modern world. And what is most impressive is his description of how individual people and nations respond to the zombie menace. A response that is all too eerily reminiscent of how people and governments have always responded to emergencies. World War Z is one of the best works of speculative fiction I have ever read, and one that I definitely recommend to anyone.
Today is the th anniversary of Bush's mistake. We have now been involved in Iraq longer than we were in World War II. I guess Bushie's really is going after the Vietnam record. Support the troops. Bring them home.
In other news of a more personal matter, I am writing a nice long post about everything that has happened with me of late, which will hopefully be ready to post soon.
No, I am not dead, I have just been a touch on the busy side of late.
And so it seems our long national nightmare may finally be over. No, not the 2008 presidential election. That nightmare is still very much in the beginning, as the various remaining candidates try to convince us why we should vote for them to accept funds and influence from lobbyist and special interest groups. No, you silly people, I mean the entertainment writers' strike, of course. What else could I mean? I mean, heaven forbid we actually pay attention to anything, you know, that is serious. Hee hee.
Seriously though, I am glad to see the strike nearing an end, and I hope the writers, whom I supported during this entire process, were able to get what they deserved. After all, without them, the entertainment industry would be nothing.
Yes, today over twenty states go to the polls to continue the process of whittling down the candidates to decide who will be the final two in the center ring. As anyone who reads this little blog of mine, and I know there may possibly one or two of you out there, can probably guess I am no conservative. I am a proud card carrying liberal. I am also an independent, refusing to bow down to either of the major (corporate) parties. I have voted Democrat in the past, and I have also voted Green and other minor parties. I do not, however, vote Republican. I never have. I never shall. My general rule of thumb is that I don't like the Republicans, and the Democrats tend to disappoint me. So, for whom shall I vote for (or against, since in this country most people do vote against a certain candidate or party) in November? That will determined mostly by who ends up being offered to us.
